Coastal Waters Wind Warning For southeast Gulf of Carpentaria waters for today, and for Northeast Gulf of Carpentaria Waters north of Crab Island for Sunday. Issued at 10:45 am EST on Saturday 25 May 2013
Synoptic Situation A high pressure system [1032 hPa] over the Great Australian Bight extends a firm ridge across Gulf of Carpentaria waters. The high will move slowly east towards the Tasman Sea by early in the week.
Strong Wind Warning for Northeast Gulf Waters, north of Crab Island Expect southeasterly winds to increase to 25 to 30 knots at times north of Crab Island from early Sunday morning. Seas increasing to 3 metres.
Strong Wind Warning for Southeast Gulf Waters Expect south to southeasterly winds 25 to 30 knots, decreasing below 26 knots during this afternoon. Seas to 2.5 metres.
The next warning will be issued by 5 pm EST.
Please be aware Wind gusts can be a further 40 percent stronger than the averages given here, and maximum waves may be up to twice the height.
