The good news is that the Bay is slowly coming awake. First light this morning as I walked to the beach crew were cruising past me down the boardwalk in their wetsuits. I couldn't even see the ocean but I knew there were waves.

J-Bay: July 24, 2008
Sunny and small today in J-Bay again today. The wind is howling offshore though. Last night it was the exact opposite. Howling onshore.

Ocean noises during the night had crew checking Supertubes at first light. High tide early and the swell is looking a bit mixed up. A local informs me that J-Bay is a bit like Hawaii and suffers from morning sickness and needs some wind to whip it into shape.

What a final day for the Billabong Pro. First light had solid 8' sets marching into the bay. Thick slabs of water running down the point. The guys in the early heats were struggling to get off the rocks and then to find the right positioning in the line up.
